Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes that Wayne Rooney could well quit Old Trafford and the odds are he would end up playing under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
Schmeichel was speaking to Danish paper Ekstra Bladet and admitted the United star might be better off looking for a move.
"Wayne could leave United and it would be good for him to get away.
"Maybe to Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho – someone who could handle him and get the best out of him.
And the Danish keeper admitted that while the move might be painful for United, ultimately it could benefit Rooney.
"It’s painful to say that the best player you have is better off trying something new. United will probably not sell him to another English club, but I do think a change of scenery would help Wayne."
