Sir Alex Ferguson’s brother, Martin Ferguson, who was sent to Udine to watch Alexis Sanchez against Roma yesterday, had a wasted trip as Chilean played no part in the match.
Udinese went down 2-1 to Roma and Sanchez, who had been scheduled to start, was forced to pull out after picking up an injury in the pre-match warm-up.
Nevertheless, Ferguson’s trip to Italy only served to reinforce the fact that Manchester United are seriously interested in the 22-year-old as they plot their transfers in the summer window.
Sanchez has been a sensation for Udinese this season and has attracted attention from Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter in addition to United.
Having cost Udinese just $3M, the Serie A club look set to make a big profit on Sanchez if, as expected, he is sold this summer. Figures in the region of €35-40M are being discussed openly in Udine.
