Former Udinese striker Abel Balbo has revealed he is sure Alexis Sanchez, a target for Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City, will rise to the very top of world football and he would like to see the Udine-based club keep hold of the Chilean for a while longer.

Balbo turned out for Udinese when he first arrived in Italy from River Plate in 1989. At the southern Italian club the Argentine striker hit the ground running and was soon snapped up my Roma in 1993. Five years at Roma were followed by spells at Parma, Fiorentina and a brief sojourn at Roma again, before Boca Juniors capped a remarkable career.

"Whoever takes Alexis Sanchez will have the deal of the transfer window", said Balbo, going on to point out that "the Chilean has grown so much over the last year in Udine and I feel he’s ready to make a big splash in world football."

The former striker though hopes that Udinese can keep hold of Sanchez for another season, even if he understands it is unlikely.

"I hope, as a former Udinese player, he stays for at least another year at the Friuli, but I think that is too simple a hope."
