Arsenal have been linked with a move for Rangers’ defender Madjid Bougherra. The Algerian has turned down a new deal at Ibrox and expects to be sold by the Scottish club this summer – news which has alerted Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners are thought to have been scouting Bougherra and his Rangers team-mate goalkeeper Allan McGregor in recent weeks and the prospect of snapping up the former Crewe Alexandra man for a reduced fee will surely be an attractive one.

Wenger will face competition for Bougherra’s signature though, with Turkish outfit Kayserispor said to be keeping a close eye on proceedings. The 28-year-old is aware of interest from the Super Lig, but explained that the English Premier League remains his priority.

"My priority is to play in the Premier League, for sure. Now, if it does not happen, I shall go and play in either Turkey or the Gulf countries."
