Kenny Dalglish has declared himself proud of Liverpool’s battling 1-1 draw at Arsenal yesterday. The Reds fought hard for 90 minutes plus a further ten minutes of injury time due to an injury suffered to Jamie Carragher which resulted in the veteran performer being stretchered off.

And when Jay Spearing fouled Samir Nasri in the penalty box in the 97th minute and Robin van Persie slotted home the resulting penalty, Dalglish’s Reds looked dead and buried, but a long ball up pitch resulted in a free kick on the edge of the Arsenal box and when Luis Suarez’ shot was deflected, Emmanuel Eboue bundled Lucas to the ground, meaning Liverpool now had a penalty. With 101 minutes on the clock, Dirk Kuyt kept his cool and slotted home.

It was a remarkable comeback from a side that had lost Fabio Aurelio to injury early on, were playing without Steven Gerrard and also had to take off Andy Carroll in the second half after the striker hurt his knee.

"I don’t think there’s another team anywhere that would show the attitude and commitment we showed out there today", reflected Dalglish post-match.

"They went through a wee bit of adversity, losing Fabio Aurelio early on and putting a 17-year-old boy on at left back. Losing the captain, having a right back who’s only 18, losing a centre forward, losing a goal eight-minutes into injury time, and they still didn’t want to accept they were going to get nothing from the game.

"I don’t think I can speak any higher than that. Everybody will be sat there tonight proud at having seen their team produce a performance like that with the attitude and commitment."
