Oleh Blokhin has been appointed as Ukraine coach for a second time. The 56-year-old bossed the country between 2003 and 2007, enjoying a notable spell at the 2006 World Cup when Ukraine navigated their way to the quarter-finals, falling only to eventual winners Italy.

Now the former FC Moscow boss will have the task of ensuring that the Euro 2012 co-hosts at least qualify from the group stage in just over a year’s time. Blokhin though is setting the bar much higher, whilst admitting group qualification will be his initial aim.

"I have a duel responsibility", said Blokhin at his unveiling. "The first is to defend the prestige of the national team and the second is the Euros, of which Ukraine is one of the host countries.

"Our main goal is to win the Euros, the first step is to pass the first round."
