Out-of-favour Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic has admitted he made a mistake by signing for the club last summer. Jovanovic arrived on a free transfer from Standard Liege and the deal was agreed by former Reds boss Rafael Benitez. By the time the Serbian arrived at Anfield, Benitez was gone and Roy Hodgson in charge.

"If I have to be totally honest, I think about it often, if I had moved to Italy or Germany I would be happier than in England", said Jovanovic to Sportske.

"My life would be easier and also for my career it would be better to play in Serie A or in the Bundesliga."

And the Serbian bemoaned the loneliness he feels in England.

"In Belgium I used to live in an area where there were a lot of Serbs, my life was different, more dynamic. In Liverpool it’s all different. I am here alone, without anybody. I am a lonely foreigner. In these months I haven’t met anybody from my country. Without my wife and my sons I wouldn’t be able to speak my language."

But Jovanovic admitted that when the offer from Liverpool arrived it was just too good to turn down, even if he now knows accepting the proposal was a mistake.

"But Liverpool are one of those clubs that you can’t refuse. I had offers from 15 other clubs. I chose the Reds and I made a mistake."
