Aston Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has emerged as a target for Serie A side Napoli and the player’s agent has admitted an approach from Walter Mazzarri’s side would be welcome.

The southern Italian club are well aware that Reo-Coker’s contract with Villa ends in the summer and are eyeing a swoop to take him to the San Paulo on a free transfer.

Reo-Coker joined Aston Villa in 2007, making the switch from West Ham United. A combative midfielder, Napoli are thought to believe the 26-year-old could replicate the success enjoyed by Paul Ince in Serie A, when the ex-Manchester United midfielder turned out for Inter in the 1990s.

"Reo-Coker has a contract that expires with Aston Villa on 30th June, so we could even speak to another club now", explained Reo-Coker’s agent Tony Finnigan to Radio CRC.

"We would be proud if there was a call from Napoli, it is a club which is doing very well in the league and has an important history, we don’t forget that the great [Diego] Maradona played in Napoli. Reo-Coker would be proud to wear the blue shirt."

Finnigan also stressed that Reo-Coker has been sounded out by other clubs in Italy, such as AC Milan, Inter and Fiorentina.
