Following Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers yesterday, a loss which virtually eliminated the Gunners from the title race, manager Arsene Wenger said if any blame is to be assigned then it should head his way.

The Frenchman’s time at Arsenal has been littered with trophies, but none will have arrived for six seasons when the 2010/11 campaign is complete and Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas further added to the pressure on Wenger when he admitted in an interview that such a dry spell would not be tolerated in Spain.

But after defeat to Bolton, Arsenal’s dry spell looks certain to be extended.

"The players have been outstanding all season", said Wenger. "If there is somebody to blame, it is me."

And the Frenchman has attracted criticism for failing to bolster his side with world-class performers, particularly between the sticks, in midfield, and up front given the repeated injury problems of Robin van Persie.

Wenger also admitted that he was frustrated because Arsenal’s title run-in was, on paper, a straightforward one.

"It’s very unsatisfactory because it’s one of the easiest run-ins we’ve had for a long time and we didn’t take our chances many times. That’s frustrating because you feel the potential is there but you have to take your chances.

"We still lack maturity, experience and calm in certain situations."
