Schalke are still pondering how to replace Ivan Rakitic, who departed the Ruhr giants for Sevilla in the winter transfer window, and their deliberations have led them to Real Madrid.
And Schalke have their eye on Los Blancos’ Esteban Granero.
The German side believe Granero could be attracted to the possibility of linking up with Real Madrid legend Raul in Gelsenkirchen, and Schalke could certainly offer the Spaniard something he lacks in Spain – a regular spot in the starting eleven.
Whether Real Madrid will be prepared to listen to offers for Granero, who Jose Mourinho continues to rate, however remains to be seen.
