Cristiano Ronaldo has bemoaned the fact that, in his opinion, the referee decided last night’s Champions League Clasico against Barcelona.
The Catalans won the game at the Bernabeu 2-0, with the referee choosing to send Pepe off after the Portuguese challenged Dani Alves. The decision was a contentious one.
"We played with ten men like the last time", said Ronaldo.
"The referee decided everything, Kaka would have come on if Pepe had not been sent off."
And Jose Mourinho joined his countryman in slamming the referee, arguing that Barcelona have an unhealthy influence over match officials.
"It’s clear that against Barcelona you have no chance", bemoaned Mourinho.
"I don’t know if it’s the publicity of UNICEF [Barcelona’s shirt sponsors], I don’t know if it’s because they are very nice, but they’ve got this power."
Real Madrid now look to have an impossible task in the second leg at the Camp Nou, needing to score at least twice just to force the tie to extra time.
