Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has denied that the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo from his side has robbed them of flair. United sold the Portuguese forward to Real Madrid in 2009 and since that time have often been accused of lacking the flair and creativity Ronaldo brought to the table.

But Ferguson does not see the situation like that and is perfectly happy with what his current crop have delivered this season. United look set to win the Premier League and are well placed to reach the Champions League final at Wembley. Ronaldo by contrast looks set to be kicking his heels at home on 28th May, with Real Madrid 2-0 down to Barcelona in their semi-final clash.

"It [the team] might not have the ‘Ronaldo factor’, but it’s not as if we’ve been devoid of that [fantasy]", said Ferguson to United’s official site in response to Marseille coach Didier Deschamps stating the side lacks flair.

"Some of the football we’ve seen from the players this season has been terrific."

And Ferguson also denied that the prospect of winning a record 19th English title is distracting his players and dragging their level down.

"I don’t think it’s on our minds at the moment. If we achieve it, it’ll be great to reflect on, but at the moment we know we’ve got some hard games left. We look forward to the challenge though."
