Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has admitted, ahead of the club’s Champions League semi-final second leg clash with Barcelona this evening, that Lionel Messi is, for him, the best player on the planet.
Much has been said about Messi in comparison to Los Blancos’ own superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese’s backers arguing that their man is every bit the equal of the Argentine. For Benzema however, Messi edges it as the world’s best, despite the Frenchman admiring the original Ronaldo, the Brazilian striker.
"I am inspired by Ronaldo, but it’s true that Messi is the best player in the world for me today.
"I do not see anyone else doing what he does. I love this player then."
Benzema will be hoping that Messi is off-colour this evening however, when Real Madrid bid to turn round a 2-0 first leg deficit in what looks to be mission impossible at the Camp Nou.
