Bayern Munich are in no rush to close a deal with Schalke for Manuel Neuer according to the club’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Neuer is set to exit Schalke this summer and the Allianz Arena side are thought to be the player’s preferred destination.

But despite the goalkeeper informing Schalke he will not be renewing a contract which ends in 2012, thereby forcing the Gelsenkirchen club to cash in on him otherwise risk losing their talent for free next summer, Bayern Munich are not getting carried away.

"We have started talks with Schalke, but are not as upbeat as some commentators", said Rummenigge.

"On our part there is no hurry to finish it, we feel no urgency."

Such words could leave the door open for Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson rating Neuer highly and astonished by the keeper’s display in their Champions League semi-final first leg in Germany. However, Neuer has been firm in his stance that he will not leave Germany, seeing no need to quit the Bundesliga, and would have to have a change of heart to make a move to Old Trafford realistic.
