New German champions Borussia Dortmund have begun planning for next season in earnest with the announcement of a deal with Nurnberg for their highly rated midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The 20-year-old Germany Under-21 star was tipped to be sold by the Franconian side this summer, although the speed of an agreement, two games before the current season is due to end, and with Nurnberg themselves still in with a chance of qualifying for European competition, has come as a surprise.
Dortmund are thought to be paying €4M for Gundogan and the player himself will sign a four-year contract with the Ruhr giants.
"Ilkay is fast and a complete player, he will be perfectly suited to our style of play", said Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.
Nurnberg fans however are likely to be disappointed not just at Gundogan’s sale, but the relatively small fee that has been realised for the midfielder. Tipped for the top, Gundogan was expected to be sold for double the amount that is expected to be received.
