Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has admitted he would have loved to stay at Ajax to win the title and Dutch Cup this season. While the Uruguay star is delighted with his move to Anfield, he is disappointed that he left with the Amsterdam giants on the cusp of a domestic double.

With just one game remaining in the Dutch league this season Ajax find themselves but a single point behind leaders FC Twente; however Ajax host Twente on the final day of the season and, should they win the game, a title drought of seven years will be ended. The Amsterdam ArenA side will also meet Twente in the Dutch Cup final on Sunday, meaning a domestic double is on the cards.

"Hopefully Ajax will be champions", said Suarez, adding: "I would love to play in these last two games."

And the Uruguay star revealed he had joked about the current situation with former team-mate Jan Vertonghen, commenting: "I told Jan that ‘I did not get the title for four seasons and then I’m away and you win this at once!’"

Suarez cost Liverpool over £23M in January and has been in sensational form since pitching up in the Premier League.
