While Barcelona and Manchester United are preparing to do battle on the pitch in the Champions League final, they may also be about to do battle off it too. Both clubs are tracking Marseille winger-cum-forward Andre Ayew and are expected to duel for the player this summer.

The 21-year-old Ghana star has impressed at the Stade Velodrome and this has not gone unnoticed. Ayew is the son of legendary African star Abedi Pele and has long been tipped for the top since starring in Marseille’s youth set-up.

Spells on loan at Lorient and Arles in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 campaigns have given him the first team football needed to improve and Ayew has begun to cement himself at Marseille this season.

Didier Deschamps’ side are keen to keep hold of Ayew though and do not want to part with their starlet. However, it is thought a bid in the region of €9M would at least force the Ligue 1 side to consider their position, and if an auction between United and Barcelona ensues then Marseille could realise a tidy amount for the youngster.
