Chelsea are reported to have sounded out Predrag Mijatovic about becoming the Premier League club’s new general manager. The Blues’ current general manager Frank Arnesen is heading to Hamburg at the end of the season, leaving a vacancy at Stamford Bridge.
Arnesen joined Chelsea in 2005 after quitting a similar position at rivals Tottenham Hotspur. His departure will leave a significant hole, but it is one Chelsea could fill with Mijatovic.
The 42-year-old Serbian, who enjoyed a glittering playing career with, most notably, Valencia, Real Madrid and Fiorentina, served as Los Blancos’ sporting director between 2006 and 2009 under Ramon Calderon.
Mijatovic is credited with masterminding the signings of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Mahmadou Diarra, Gonzalo Higuain, Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart during his time at the Bernabeu.
