Bundesliga duo Mainz and Hannover are watching Roque Santa Cruz’ situation with interest after it emerged Blackburn Rovers, where the Chilean is on loan from Manchester City, consider the fee required to sign the striker permanently to be too high.

Santa Cruz returned to Blackburn on loan in January, the club he had left to follow then-manager Mark Hughes to Eastlands in 2009, after struggling to cement a first team spot at City. And goals in his second spell at Blackburn have proven hard to come by, but despite this the Ewood Park outfit would jump at the chance to conclude a deal were the price considered reasonable.

And if the two English clubs are unable to come to an agreement there will be interest from elsewhere. Bundesliga sides Mainz and Hannover know all about Santa Cruz from the striker’s successful spell in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich between 1999 and 2007; and a move back to Germany could certainly appeal to the 29-year-old.

Hannover especially, if Mirko Slomka’s side can win their battle for third place and a Champions League spot against Bayern Munich in their last two games, would look Santa Cruz’ preferred destination.
