AC Milan have claimed their first Scudetto since 2004 after drawing 0-0 at Roma last night. With just two games left, the Rossoneri have a lead of nine points over rivals Inter, who have three games remaining.

However, head-to-head results are used to separate sides level on points and, by virtue of Milan winning both derbies this season, it is they who will be champions regardless.

The victory ends Inter’s own special run of five consecutive Serie A titles, with a superb Treble achieved last season under then-coach Jose Mourinho.

And Milan were understandably delighted, with coach Massimiliano Allegri overflowing with praise for his players.

"I think the lads have done a tremendous job. It’s been important that they’ve accepted my decisions, it proves the group is united. We brought everyone to Rome, but ten players had to watch the game from the stands.

"I’m very happy; it’s my first year at Milan and I’ve just won the Scudetto – I’m still getting used to the idea."

And midfielder Gennaro Gattuso hailed the victory as one of the club’s most important ever.

"This is one of our most important triumphs, because it came at a time when people said we were finished. They said I and some of my team-mates were former players. I knew we could win it when the boss began making big decisions. He’s done very well, especially managing the dressing room."
