Portuguese giants Benfica have denied being in discussions with Dynamo Kyiv over Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo.

The Ukrainian club are thought to be eyeing up a move for the 27-year-old and it had been mooted that a bid of some €13M would be enough to tempt Benfica into parting with a player they signed from Newell’s Old Boys in 2007. A fee of €13M would represent only a small profit for Benfica though given Cardozo cost €12M.

However, the Ukrainians are unlikely to be put off by Benfica’s denial of being in negotiations over the striker. Dynamo believe they have two bargaining chips in the form of Brazilian pair Andre Felipe and Gerson Magrao – two players the Portuguese side are thought to rate highly.
