Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp may have seen his side’s hopes of making the top four and Champions League ended by a 1-0 defeat at Manchester City last night, but the former Portsmouth boss was still proud of his players for their performance at Eastlands.

It was only a Peter Crouch own goal that decided the contest and Redknapp was in no doubt that for all their effort his players did not deserve to be on the end of a 1-0 defeat.

"The players are disappointed, they all thought we deserved something", said Redknapp.

"I thought we controlled the game for long periods. For an away team we had a lot of the ball and played ever so well again.

"Luka [Modric] had a great chance in the first half and the keeper made a great save in the second half. I’m delighted with the players. We played some great football against a top, top team. I couldn’t have asked for more."

And now Redknapp believes Spurs must be focused on beating Liverpool on Sunday. Sitting two points behind the Reds, Redknapp’s men need to target victory to overhaul Kenny Dalglish’s side for fifth spot, a place which guarantees Europa League football next season.

"We have to try and win at Liverpool and if we play how we played against City we’ll have a great chance."
