Juventus have decided against taking up their option to buy Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool according to reports from Italy. The former Roma midfielder has been on loan in Turin all season and the Bianconeri could have sent a previously agreed fee of €16M to Anfield to make the move a permanent one.
However, the Serie A giants have been firm in their insistence that €16M is too high a price for Aquilani and Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the club’s hierarchy have now decided to let the deadline for a permanent move at that price pass.
That though should not be the end of the Aquilani story, with Juventus still hopeful of signing the player this summer.
While the Bianconeri are well aware that a number of other clubs are looking closely at the 26-year-old, they believe they remain in the box seat due to the player’s desire to stay in Turin.
Therefore Juventus will revisit Aquilani’s situation in late May, early June, by which time the Italians hope Liverpool will be ready to offer a discount on the midfielder.
A fair price in Juventus’ opinion is between €10-12M. Whether Liverpool would be prepared to accept €4M less than the figure agreed last summer though remains to be seen and will surely come down to manager Kenny Dalglish deciding if there is room for the Italian at Anfield next season.
