Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas has revealed his disappointment at missing out on the Champions League. A 1-0 defeat away to Manchester City on Tuesday ensured that Spurs could not reach the top four and will not play amongst Europe’s big boys next season.
It is a fate Gallas is disappointed with, having enjoyed the club’s run to the quarter-finals of this season’s competition and seen Spurs win many plaudits for their attacking never-say-die approach.
But next season there will be no Champions League and qualifying once again will be a tough ask – and Gallas and his team-mates are upset.
"It will be harder next year", explained Gallas.
"Liverpool are really, really strong and playing good football, so now it will be between maybe five or six teams to qualify for the Champions League.
"I am sure all the players are very upset. You feel so good in the Champions League and you get the chance to compete against the best in Europe."
Now Spurs must turn their attention to trying to take fifth place, a position Liverpool currently occupy. And with the two due to meet on Sunday at Anfield, the race for the Europa League is beginning to heat up.
