Liverpool are readying a bid for Wolfsburg’s Brazilian playmaker Diego, convinced that the 26-year-old could be the bargain of the summer transfer market.

The Reds are on the lookout for a creative spark after manager Kenny Dalglish bemoaned his side’s inability to break teams down easily. While Luis Suarez is capable of making chances out of thin air, the rest of the Liverpool squad do not possess the Uruguayan’s creative touch.

And Dalglish well understands that because of this Liverpool suffer if Suarez is absent.

The Premier League giants have been linked with Diego before, but Wolfsburg’s €15M price-tag was considered too high. Now though, after Diego snubbed a place on the bench for last weekend’s fixture at Hoffenheim, angering coach Felix Magath, the amount demanded has been cut by a third. Now Liverpool could buy the former Juventus schemer for just €10M.

Aware of the bargain Tottenham Hotspur picked up with the signing of Rafael van der Vaart, Liverpool are keen to repeat the trick with Diego.

The Brazilian would surely be ready to move to Anfield, even without Dalglish being able to offer European football next season. Wolfsburg themselves endured a miserable campaign, only surviving due to Magath’s efforts upon his arrival late in the season, courtesy of a sacking by Schalke.
