Napoli have seen off interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea in their striker Edinson Cavani. The forward, who has been sublime in Serie A this season, has penned an extension to his contract in southern Italy.
The Uruguayan star’s deal with Napoli now expires in 2016 and his signature is an important pointer that the Italian side will be able to resist interest in the player this summer.
Nicknamed "the Matador", Cavani was expected to be the subject of interest from Spanish side Real Madrid and English giants Chelsea this summer, with both having taken notice of his goalscoring exploits in Serie A.
Indeed, Cavani has been the key man behind Napoli’s securing of third spot and Champions League football this season, with some breathtaking performances in a light blue shirt.
The Uruguay international has found the back of the net 26 times in 35 Serie A starts in the 2010/11 campaign.
