Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he will rest a number of key players for the side’s final Premier League game against Blackpool tomorrow.
United face Ian Holloway’s side at Old Trafford knowing the title is already secured, but for Blackpool, at least a point and possibly a win will be needed to give the Tangerines any chance of avoiding relegation.
And though Blackpool would surely welcome a weakened United team, Ferguson knows his side must do their best to be fair to the other clubs involved in the relegation scrap.
"Obviously everybody expects me to leave players out and that will be the case", said Ferguson.
"I have to think about next week [the Champions League final]. I have to juggle the balls and make sure I get the right mix to keep the right energies for Barcelona.
"There are players who need a game anyway. Darren Fletcher, Paul Scholes and Anderson will all play. So will [Dimitar] Berbatov, [Patrice] Evra and [Edwin] van der Sar.
"We’ll do our fairest to make sure there’s no criticism of the club."
Berbatov especially should have extra motivation though, with the Bulgarian battling Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez for the Premier League’s Golden Boot award. Both strikers are currently level pegging on 20 goals each.
