Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath has explained that next season he is targeting a return to Europe for the German club. Magath led Wolfsburg to win the Bundesliga in 2009, thus qualifying for the Champions League – and the former Schalke manager wants to repeat the feat.

Magath had been in charge of Schalke until just three months ago, when the Ruhr club sacked him despite being through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The 57-year-old was not out of work for long though, with former club Wolfsburg quickly swooping and banking on Magath to save them from relegation – a task he swiftly completed.

Now the German boss is focusing on a much better season at the Volkswagen Arena, one which sees Wolfsburg return to European football.

"We want to return to the European Cup", said Magath.

"That is the mission that I have received from the board and this is the order I will give to the players."
