Veteran Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf has signed a one-year contract extension at AC Milan and instantly revealed that the Champions League was behind his decision to stay with the Rossoneri.
Seedorf had fielded a series of offers, including three from Brazil, but after a conversation with Milan’s vice-president Adriano Galliani, felt ready to commit himself to his current club for a further year.
For the 35-year-old, the prospect of further success in European football was a deciding factor.
"I’ve never in my career made my choices according to finances", said Seedorf.
"The money was no object.
"I want to feel important for the club. Vice-president Adriano Galliani gave me the answers I was looking for."
And Seedorf explained that the Champions League was key to his decision too.
"After the Scudetto, I want to be a European contender. I want my fifth Champions League win. I still hunger for that type of prize. Moreover, there is no better place to win prizes than at Milan."
