Inter ended their troubled season on a high note last night by claiming the Coppa Italia.

The Nerazzurri beat Palermo 3-1 in the final to ensure that at least some domestic silverware ended up in their clutches following their dethroning as Serie A champions by bitter rivals AC Milan and a failure to defend their Champions League title.

A brace from Samuel Eto’o (27 and 77 mins) was replied to through Palermo man Ezequiel Munoz at the death, before Diego Milito well and truly wrapped things up in injury time.

"It was a difficult victory and that makes it even more beautiful", said Inter stalwart Javier Zanetti.

"Congratulations to Palermo, who played a great match, but also to us because we showed ourselves again to be a real group and a team that knows how to overcome all obstacles."

And coach Leonardo signed off by stating: "This group deserved to finish the year by lifting a trophy."
