Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has explained he is desperate to remain at Manchester United next season.
Owen has only played a minor part in United’s Premier League-winning campaign this season and did not get on the pitch in their Champions League final loss to Barcelona, despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s side chasing the game at 3-1 down.
And despite admitting before the final that he had spoken to Ferguson just once, briefly, about his future, Owen has his fingers crossed for an extended stay.
“I have loved every minute”, said Owen.
“We have great players, great staff, great manager, and great fans. Hopefully it can continue.”
Owen’s future at United looks set to depend on just how active Ferguson is in the summer transfer market. But, with the 31-year-old appearing happy in the role of back-up striker to the club’s big guns, he may yet remain for another year at Old Trafford.
