Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu has stated his intention to remain at the Serie A club in the wake of their Coppa Italia final loss to Inter.

The highly-rated shot-stopper has emerged as a target for Ruhr giants Schalke, with the German club planning for how to deal with the departure of current number 1 Manuel Neuer to Bayern Munich.

The name of Sirigu has cropped up in discussion, with the Italian thought to be a worthy replacement for the Germany keeper.

But the player himself has explained he is not keen to leave Palermo.

"I do not think we have problems", said Sirigu.

"I have a contract and I do not think of going away. I do not want to think about anything, it would be simplistic to talk about my future on a night like this.

"I do not think there are problems for my future, unless you change the scenarios from now on.

"For my part, there is the desire to stay, if not it will be for other reasons, not by my choice."
