Sergio Aguero has dashed the hopes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus by declaring he would rather remain in La Liga next season than head abroad.
The Argentine wants to leave current club Atletico Madrid as he no longer feels his ambitions can be met at the Vicente Calderon. Just days ago the Spanish side revealed they had yet to receive a single concrete bid for the talented forward, but Juventus have spoken to members of the Atletico board about the 22-year-old, while Chelsea and Manchester City have been pondering a bid.
But Aguero has revealed that he sees himself remaining in La Liga for the 2011/12 campaign, instantly placing Barcelona and Real Madrid in the driving seat – the player would not countenance a move elsewhere within the country.
"The English league and the Italian one I like", explained Aguero to Argentine TV station TYC Sports, "but I prefer the Spanish because I’ve been here for five years.
"I leave the door open to any other club, the fans and my club have to understand it.
"I made it clear to my team that I intend to play for any team without any conditions."
Aguero’s words would appear to be paving the way for what would be a controversial switch to Atletico’s fierce rivals Real Madrid. The Argentine is known to be highly rated by Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho, and the Portuguese is looking to add a further forward to his squad for next season.
A late move from Barcelona too, cannot be ruled out, though how close Atletico will stick to their €45M asking price could be key to any deal.
