Dirk Kuyt believes that Liverpool are on the brink of challenging for the Premier League title and getting the club back to where they feel it belongs.

Under Spanish boss Rafael Benitez, Liverpool slipped out of the Champions League places, while Roy Hodgson, appointed last summer, could not reverse the slump. Indeed, the former Fulham manager himself underachieved, leading to his sacking in January and the appointment of club legend Kenny Dalglish.

Dalglish oversaw a revival in the second half of the league campaign, and even though Liverpool still missed out on qualifying for Europe, the feel-good factor which gripped Anfield has continued, and Kuyt, who recently signed a new deal, has a sense of renewed optimism for next season.

"I signed up because I have faith in the club", explained the Dutchman to AD.

"Everything I noticed shows the ambitions are high.

"The appointment of Steve Clarke, assistant to [Jose] Mourinho at Chelsea is one example. Just a very good on the pitch coach. That sort of thing.

"The club strives again to get to a level that suits the club."

Further questioned about developments at Anfield, Kuyt stated that he still has the goal of winning the Premier League and a plethora of other trophies, and Liverpool can help him to achieve those dreams.

"Again, I feel that I am at one of the top clubs in Europe. The goal is still to become champions and win cups, and I will help.

"As I played the last games, nine goals in my last ten games, starting in January with the Dutch national team five goals, I feel good. I can join the top [players] in Europe."
