Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has refused to rule out a return to his old club Feyenoord in the future, with the Holland international ready to return home in two years’ time.

The Dutchman was an icon at the Rotterdam giants, but left for Liverpool in 2006 in a £10M deal.

Since leaving Feyenoord however, Kuyt has witnessed the decline of his old club; at once point the former powerhouses of the Eredivisie were fighting against relegation.

And while things have improved, the 30-year-old, who will turn 31 in July, will only move back to De Kuip if Feyenoord once again look likely to be title contenders. He will also not wait until his best days are well and truly behind him.

"Only if Feyenoord can be champions", said Kuyt about under what circumstances he would return to Rotterdam.

"I would not return at the age of 35. Then you have a very different Kuyt, with much less left in the tank.

"Over two years, that would be the time. On my 33rd [birthday I] should come up, then you’re already on your way back."

And the Dutchman would like to still be able to be part of building something in Rotterdam if he does return to Feyenoord.

"I want to build something, like when I played. [For] Feyenoord to again be in the prizes."
