Jose Mourinho has taken time out from his planning for next season to speak out on Real Madrid’s transfer plans. The Portuguese wanted to clarify the status of several players within his squad and comment on speculation over potential targets.
"I wish to clarify a few things in regard to Real’s plans in the transfer market", said Mourinho.
"Contrary to recent media reports, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain are not for sale – they will stay here.
"As regards Kaka, I have faith in him and he will recover from injury. The criticism directed at him is unfair. Kaka was just unlucky with injuries, he is still a fantastic player. We are keeping him too."
And on the subject of who might arrive at the Bernabeu, Mourinho was playing his cards close to his chest, although he did confirm at least one name long speculated about.
"In regard to signing players, the rumours are correct. I’m interested in Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao.
"He is great and I hope we sign him. Quality players like him are always welcome in my team."
