Former Barcelona star Luis Enrique has confirmed he is edging closer towards an agreement to coach Roma next season.

The highly-rated Spaniard has been in charge of Barcelona’s B team, a path trodden by current Camp Nou boss Josep Guardiola before he succeeded to the senior side.

And Enrique is ready to make the step up to a bigger club, with the 41-year-old desperate to launch himself upon top level European football; Roma look an ideal place for the Spaniard to start.

"There are some details to conclude", said Enrique when asked about talks over becoming Roma’s new boss.

"The project of Roma is very much attractive, there is an agreement, but nothing official. It’s missing some details to conclude it."

A former player with both Barcelona and Real Madrid, Enrique is thought to have been offered a two-year contract in the Italian capital worth some €1.6M per year.

He is expected to be accompanied by Ivan de la Pena, who retired from football with Espanyol this season, and who should act as his assistant with the Giallorossi.

The 35-year-old De la Pena also has some knowledge of Italian football, having played for Lazio between 1998 and 2002.
