Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is convinced that the club is on the cusp of a new era of glory.

Last season Los Blancos could only pick up the Copa del Rey and had to watch as bitter rivals Barcelona picked up La Liga and the Champions League.

But Perez believes that the cup success was just a pointer for what is to come and provides the perfect foundation to push forward.

"If anything characterises this institution, it is its hunger for wins and titles", said the Real Madrid supremo.

"This year we have laid the groundwork for future readiness for the challenges of our Real Madrid.

"We have a spectacular team, very young, with the best coach in the world and technical team, which has already achieved its first title.

"The first cup is just the beginning of a great time."

Real Madrid have already been active in the transfer market this summer, swooping for Nuri Sahin from Borussia Dortmund and snapping up Hamit Altintop on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

More names are set to arrive, but what is indeed striking is the young age of the Real Madrid outfit Mourinho is putting together. This gives even more weight to expectations that the Portuguese is building a side to dominate Spanish football for a decade.
