Young Spanish coach Luis Enrique has revealed that he spoke to Josep Guardiola about taking the job of Roma boss. Enrique, a former Barcelona and Real Madrid utility man, has been in charge of Barcelona’s B side as he follows in the coaching footsteps of Guardiola.
The 41-year-old, who made over 200 appearances for Barcelona, is keen to take the next step in his career and interest from the Giallorossi was instantly welcomed.
Roma, under new owner Thomas DiBenedetto, are ready to make a splash in next season’s Serie A and talks between the club and Enrique are well-advanced.
After admitting that there were only a few details to be ironed out before he could take over as Roma’s new coach, the Spaniard admitted consulting Guardiola, a personal friend as well as a former team-mate.
"Pep and I have talked about this", said Enrique, "and he said that Roma is ‘a serious club and they would be a good option’ for me."
The ex-Real Madrid man will have much to live up to in the Italian capital, as Roma look to snare a Guardiola clone.
