Reports from Spain suggest that Cesc Fabregas’ agent may have entered into a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona. And while there is no suggestion the Arsenal midfielder would move to the Camp Nou this summer, the deal could ensure that if and when Fabregas does leave the Emirates, it is to Barcelona he heads.
According to Catalunya Radio, Fabregas’ representative has an agreement with Barcelona President Sandro Rosell and will meet with the Camp Nou club again on Friday. On the agenda would be when the Arsenal star could leave London and just how much might be needed to convince Arsene Wenger to cash in.
Under contract with the Gunners until 2015, Fabregas is locked into a secure agreement, making an exit from the Emirates almost entirely at Wenger’s discretion.
Barcelona have money to spend in the summer transfer market after their shirt sponsorship deal with the Qatar Foundation. A bid of some €40M would likely be their starting point if once again a summer chase for Fabregas developed. Although the Catalans could once again decide to bide their time.
Other clubs are also watching developments closely, with both Real Madrid and Inter keen to be kept informed of the midfielder’s availability.
