The race for Udinese winger-cum-forward Alexis Sanchez is hotting up after Barcelona lodged an official bid for the Chilean.
Sources in Italy have confirmed that the European Champions faxed an offer of €18M through to Udine for Sanchez. However, as expected, Udinese’s president Gianpaolo Pozzo rejected the bid out of hand; €18M is well below Udinese’s valuation of the player.
Today officials from English Premier League outfit Manchester City are expected to meet their counterparts from Udinese and better the bid Barcelona placed on the table.
The Eastlands side are expected to put forth a bid of €25M as their opening gambit in the chase for Sanchez.
But while this is a substantial improvement on the offer from Barcelona, it too is not expected to be enough to move Pozzo into sanctioning Sanchez’ departure.
With Champions League football on the menu in Udine next season, Udinese need to be tempted with an irresistible offer for their Chilean talent, and want the bidding to start at nearer to €35M.
And while Barcelona and Manchester City are the player’s main suitors at present, several other sides are watching developments closely.
