Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is moving closer to snapping up Portuguese full back Fabio Coentrao from Benfica.

Mourinho went on record recently as stating his admiration for the player, a star he openly hoped would join him at the Bernabeu next season.

And Los Blancos have made good progress in their negotiations with Benfica, helped by the player’s clear desire to answer Mourinho’s call.

Reports from Spain suggest the deal is heading quickly to a conclusion with Coentrao set to arrive at the Bernabeu at some point later this week, providing talks continue at their current pace.

Benfica will, as part of the deal, see Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay and attacking midfielder Pablo Sarabia, join their ranks.
