Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in football – that Cesc Fabregas wishes to leave the Gunners and join Barcelona.

Last summer Fabregas was the subject of a swoop from Barcelona and the Catalans have a long history of trying to tempt their former youth product back to the Camp Nou. However, the Spaniard’s close relationship with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has always ensured that he respects the Frenchman’s decision – and Wenger has consistently refused to play ball with Barcelona.

But despite a limited summer transfer budget of just €45M (excluding player sales), the Catalans look set to try again. It is a move that would be welcomed by Fabregas according to his team-mate Sagna.

"Cesc would rather return home to his hometown to be with his family", commented Sagna to RMC.

"He wants to play for one of the best teams in the world and that’s Barcelona.

"That’s understandable. But for now, he is still our captain at Arsenal."

Arsenal are only thought willing to play ball over Fabregas for a fee of €50M, while €30M is the amount the Catalans have in mind.
