Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund are bidding to see off interest in Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa by offering the player a new improved contract.

Kagawa was a key figure in Dortmund’s successful 2010/11 campaign and was arguably the best piece of business across the whole of Europe last summer when arriving from Japanese football for just €350,000.

And it has come as little surprise to see the Blue Samurai star start to attract attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with most recently Manchester United linked with a swoop for his services.

Dortmund though are desperate to keep hold of Kagawa, who is under contract until 2013, and want to reward his superb first season at the club.

"He’s really enjoying himself at Borussia Dortmund", Kagawa’s agent Thomas Kroth told Bild.

"We have already spoken with the club and expect to do something in the short-term about his future at Dortmund.

"He is eager to play a big part in next season’s Champions League."
