24 hours after confirming the departure of Claude Puel as coach, Lyon have announced the former Lille man’s successor.

And the French side’s choice is none other than Remi Garde.

The 45-year-old has served at various coaching levels within the club since 2003 and last year was appointed Lyon’s director of training.

Garde was originally offered the post in 2008, but politely refused. President Jean-Michel Aulas has never forgotten his qualities however, and the former midfielder was his first stop after Puel’s departure.

The new Lyon boss must now try to restore the Ligue 1 giants to their throne. With no title since 2008 following seven consecutive wins, these are dark times for Lyon.
