Royston Drenthe has denied speculation that he is set to form part of a package to take Fabio Coentrao from Benfica to Real Madrid.

The Dutchman is out of favour at the Bernabeu and spent last season on loan with Hercules. However, he featured just 17 times and could not help the club avoid relegation from La Liga.

Due to head back to Los Blancos, the future for Drenthe under Jose Mourinho looks bleak, with the former Feyenoord man well down the pecking order.

It was believed though that Drenthe would form part of the deal to take Coentrao to Madrid, with the Dutchman heading to Lisbon as a result; at Benfica his chances of first team football would dramatically improve.

But Drenthe himself has played down the talk, insisting: "I do not know anything [about Benfica]. There is no concrete interest."
