Atletico Madrid are already planning for life after Sergio Aguero, even if the Argentine has yet to make any progress towards leaving the club.

Aguero has announced that he believes his time at the Vicente Calderon is over, but with the forward wishing to remain in La Liga, but neither Barcelona or Real Madrid looking close to securing his signature, a move abroad may represent his best option of exiting Atletico.

And Real Madrid’s recent moves to try and secure Santos striker Neymar only confirm that a bid from the Bernabeu looks some distance away.

But Atletico are already thinking long and hard over the possibility of life without their Argentine hitman, and this has caused club officials to cast their eyes over potential replacements.

And one name is thought to stand out above all others – Giuseppe Rossi.

The Villarreal forward is keen to move to Barcelona, with the Catalans themselves ready to take the Italian to the Camp Nou. But Josep Guardiola’s side are operating under a strict budget of €45M and are pushing ahead with their move for Udinese man Alexis Sanchez.

Rossi therefore may be forced to consider alternatives if he wishes to leave the Yellow Submarine.
