New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is ready to make FC Porto striker Falcao the first signing of his reign at Stamford Bridge.

Falcao has been prolific at Porto, working under Villas-Boas in the club’s Treble winning season, and attracting attention from sides across Europe. But now the Portuguese coach has the financial firepower to see off interest from elsewhere and take the 25-year-old to the Premier League.

Porto, now under Villas-Boas’ former assistant Vitor Pereira, remain desperate to keep hold of the Colombian international and are counting on Falcao spearheading their Champions League charge next season.

However, with the striker having a release clause of some €30M in his contract, Chelsea can take the decision out of Porto’s hands – and this is exactly what Villas-Boas is preparing to do.

The Blues are also in the process of drawing up a contract worth €5.6M per year for the striker – a salary too tempting to turn down.

Villas-Boas is also keen on Falcao’s team-mate Hulk, but the Brazilian hitman’s release clause of €100M places Porto very much in the driving seat over his future.

Falcao’s arrival at Stamford Bridge would cast a question mark over veteran forward Didier Drogba, with Turkish duo Galatasaray and Fenerbahce remaining keen on the Ivory Coast international.
