Barcelona’s summer transfer budget is coming under renewed pressure after both Arsenal and Udinese demanded more money for Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez respectively.
The Catalans only have a kitty of €45M to spend this summer, though the sale of Bojan Krkic to Roma could bring in between €10M-€12M to add to that amount. Even so, with Arsenal looking at close to €50M for Fabregas and Udinese believing Sanchez should be worth nearly €40M, the European Champions are under financial pressure should they still wish to complete both deals.
Fabregas is seen as the long term successor to midfield maestro Xavi and his move to the Camp Nou has already stalled several times.
Chilean forward Sanchez however is viewed as a crucial addition this summer, with Josep Guardiola keen to deploy the 22-year-old as part of the side’s attacking trio.
But with Manchester City providing serious opposition for Sanchez’ signature, Barcelona may yet have to spend most of their allocated budget on the Chile international. Sanchez is known to prefer a move to the Camp Nou though, a fact the Blaugrana are sure will work in their favour.
Even so, unless the budget at Guardiola’s disposal can be boosted by further sales beyond Krkic’s, Barcelona may not be able to bring in both Fabregas and Sanchez this summer.
