Liverpool are moving closer to capturing Stewart Downing from Aston Villa and Charlie Adam from Blackpool.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is keen to add the duo as soon as possible to ensure a full pre-season spent with their new team-mates, but both Villa and Blackpool are determined to extract the very best possible terms from the Anfield side.
Downing will cost Liverpool £17M, but it has been suggested Villa would like the winger to hand in a transfer request and therefore forgo any loyalty payment the player would be due upon his sale.
Midfielder Adam meanwhile is believed to be confident his switch to Liverpool will not be too far away. The Scotsman was denied the opportunity to move to Anfield in the January transfer window, with Blackpool determined he should stay and aid the battle against relegation; a battle the Tangerines ultimately lost.
With Blackpool ready to cash in on Adam and the player himself keen to play under the legendary figure of Kenny Dalglish, the transfer looks a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’.
